On their recent visit to the U.P., Deb and Ron Simons stopped in Wakefield for a travel break, at the Visitor Center there. It is located on Sunday Lake and is also home to the 27 ft. tall Indian sculpture by Peter Wolf Toth, who has carved and donated Indian statues to 50 States and Canada. This particular Indian Sculpture was carved from a 350 year old white pine, donated to Peter by the Ottawa National Forest. The white pine had a 5 foot diameter base and stood 120 feet tall, but the tree was dying…what a beautiful ending for a grand old tree.
Deb also snapped a couple shots of the Veteran's Memorial on the grounds, with flags from each of the Armed Forces flying high above the monument. You can see some of the color across the lake there and then Deb captured a few of the colorful trees around the grounds, too. Quite the interesting rest stop!

Peter's carvings are so beautiful. My husband and I met and talked with him in Mandan, ND in the early 1980s where he was working on a carving. Deb and Ron, all your other photos are outstanding also. Thanks for sharing them all.

Great pictures. That looks like a very nice place to take a little travel break. The colors are nice to see. I was not aware that the Indian carving existed. Thanks for enlightening me. That is a huge undertaking. I wonder how long it took him to create it. Thanks again for sharing.
