We start off today with four photos from Brenda Leigh, snapped in the Brimley area on the eastern end of the U.P. Her first scene is a beauty…the tranquility of Lake Superior, framed by autumn colors in the trees. Outstanding. And I bet you're thinking Brenda must have had a nice walk on the beach to capture that shot…well, if so, then you're wrong. Her next photo shows why. You see that stick in the sand? It's actually stuck down in the sand two feet there, marking the spot where Brenda stepped to try to get to the far side of the creek and sunk up to her knees in this muck hole, falling forward at the same time. Wet all the way to her knees, but thankfully no injuries and she managed to save her camera from disaster. When all was said and done, she had even lost a shoe in the hole, but ended up having a good laugh even though she was cold and wet. Photography isn't as easy as it looks, I guess.
Brenda went on to snap a few shots of Gitche Gumee all stirred up and wavy. Her third one is my favorite, as the sun is illuminating that cresting wave and you can see the sand all stirred up as it's carried on to the shore.
The last three photos were taken by Robert Schwarzkopf (a.k.a. Oldtoot) over here on the western end of the U.P., showing that the Big Lake was stirred up on this side, too. This is out at Portage Entry, showing Lake Superior having what Robert called a "hissy fit" and if you look to the right in the photos, you can see that beyond the breakwall, there are no waves at all. Here again, you can see the sand all stirred up by the waves crashing and splashing around.
Robert's last photo is a splash, too…of the beautiful colors we're being treated to right now here in the Keweenaw. Fall is definitely upon us and the colors are popping all over.

Omigosh, Brenda, that must've been quite a spill, glad there was no damage done. Better start walking with a 'depth finder' on the beach.;) Great pix anyway. Those are neat shots by 'Oldtoot' also.;>

Actually, the pics at portage entry were taken on the east side near Jacobsville. Colored leaves on the west side in McLain park.

Yep, the waves were huge this past weekend. We have a video and I listen to it over and over. Never tire of the sound of those rolling waves. Thanks for these great pictures!

It looks like Mother Superior is practicing for the "Gales of November". 😲
