In her Baraga backyard, Donna MacIntosh gets a variety of visitors, including these little furry critters pictured today. The first photo is a small chipmunk, littler than the rest she feeds on her deck, so she's named her "Midge". It looks like Donna sets out a feast for her little furry friends and it's nice to see that they can all eat there together without a big ruckus. Oh, I'm sure there still are times that they don't share, but what fun to watch them living the life.

Donna's last shot is another of her visitors, but this one seems quite interested in checking out what the lady with the camera is doing. Or maybe he's trying to tell her he's hungry, too. Check out the toes on that guy, they look like fingers!

You either love these critters or you don't. They can definitely be destructive, but they're also fun to watch. We don't mind feeding them, but when they empty a feeder in a day, hiding it away for winter, that's when we take measures to thwart them from getting on the feeders. Otherwise, they have to eat, too!

Cute.

Yeah...those red squirrels are a pain....but the
chips are ADORABLE! Everyday, I do "Chip Therapy"...I
go out and put out piles of seed, call them in....and
soon it's "brown out" with all the chipmunks running
in...."she's there....chow time!!"......and while
they fill their cheeks...I'm scratching their
backs....LOVE IT. Midge won't get close enough
tho...not yet anyway!

Nice pix...the last shot is a good example of a prey animal...two eyes positioned on opposite sides of their heads to give the best possible field of view, so they can lookout for bad boys.
Sounds like Donna is becoming the Monk of Chips :-)

I agree, Chippies are cute, but.....

Wonderful pictures Donna! Your yard must be the most amazing in the neighborhood!

I can picture a ten ton weight dropping onto that
concrete slab, 3 in 1. I'm sorry but those little
buggers have riddled my back yard with holes,
right up against the foundation, and they're
really hard to eliminate.

Nice pictures though.

Nice pics...but...they are destructive little guys....I have taken out 30 at least so far this year...They make excellent targets though

I love these little guys. They provide endless enjoyment at camp.
Our two resident chipmunks are Sauna Boy and Flagpole Boy. When
they descend on the peanuts we put out for them, they arrive from
those places. As they compete with each other, they remind my
husband and me of Chip and Dale. Those cartoonists knew those
critters.

we use to feed chipmunks, then we put the bag of seeds in the back end of the truck. one day we saw several chipmunks underneath the truck and jumping up on the tire to try and get at those seeds. we were afraid they would possibly chew through something underneath the truck, so we stopped feeding them, it got a bit to much to continue feeding them. BUT, they sure were cute to watch. ;O)

Chippy pictures are always good for a heated debate! In our yard they use the plastic drain tile as their pre-made tunnels and then chew thru it at their pleasure to make exits. This is not an endearing quality, as it defeats the purpose of the tile!

Mrfist, do you filet them and make pasties and tan their pelts for gloves? At least that would be something useful!
