When Bob Gilreath was out fishing near Oskar Bay, he said they caught themselves a few fish, but it looks like he also captured some Eagles in the process. Personally, I think they were keeping an eye on Bob, waiting for him to catch a fish and throw it for them to feast on.

The Bald Eagle was back and forth to the tree tops, Bob said, and the one in the third shot, screeched by them and landed in that white pine there. Bob wasn't sure, but he thinks it is either an Immature Eagle or a Golden Eagle. Either way, these birds sure are majestic creatures.

Once he got home from fishing, Bob said he was treated to a much smaller bird, feasting on his hummingbird feeder. It's not an easy feat to capture one of these quick little hummers and it seems like Bob snapped this one just as it was about to land on the perch for a sip of nectar. Nice job!

Excellent shots!! Such clarity! The second one is just amazing, how it shows the feathers and his full on face. Great job Bob!!

Nice shots! Number 2 is a perfect example of a predator with eyes that face forward.

The fellow in the 2nd photo looks like he means business ~ eyes straight ahead, beak half open, and wings ready to take off!!
Magnificent shots, Bob!

Did anyone take photos of the swim across the
Straits of Mackinac yesterday? I'd love to see
some!

Thank you, Bob! Great photos! We've had a pair of bald eagles close by all summer and it's been great to see them so often. What magnificent creatures!

I sent that Eagle Stare picture to my Biologist
son. I'm sure he will love it.

If he likes that one, check out this high speed super-slow motion video (recorded at 1000 fps with a Photron Full HD High Speed Camera SA2) of an …
(click →) Eagle Owl (a.k.a. Horned owl) swooping in for a kill.

Be sure to click on the little gear wheel in the lower right corner of the screen and set Quality to 1080P HD for the best view!

If the prey saw the unblinking, unwavering stare of that face zooming in (in absolute silence) it might have a heart attack before the eagle got it!

As one commenter said (and as a pilot myself):

Quote:

Watching the transition-to-approach and slow-flight dynamics in this video is just amazing. As a Pilot myself (though inactive for over 20 years), it's interesting to watch the owl leave cruise flight, go through flaps extension and gear extension (though performed somewhat out of order compared to how a flier with metal wings would do it), and finally at the end be operating at very high angle of attack, low airspeed, and close to the stall.
