The end of August, the end of summer, it seems like it came and went too fast. As do our friends and loved ones that have gone on before us... too fast. We continue our "end of the month" tradition, remembering those who've left us:

Friends and visitors to Gitche Gumee may recognize the last name in this month's list. Chad Wolf was one of our friends who served as a counselor during youth camps about half a lifetime ago. Chad went on to become a police officer, and he died in the line of duty last week in a motorcycle accident. Just hours before, on that stretch of I-75, Edie and I had driven past on our way back home to the U.P.

Chad loved the U.P., and had recently visited Eagle River. He was a man of faith, and will be dearly missed by all of us whose lives he touched in a positive way.

The last day of August already. Many people
consider this the last day of summer, but of
course it's not. Thank you for using one of my
beautiful sunset pictures. There were so many
that I'd never have been able to choose, so
thanks for doing that.

Ed Chopp died. I went to school with his
daughter, so my condolences to her and the rest
of the family. Always so sad for me to see a
familiar name. I'm thinking especially of my
Grandma Normand and Grandpa Durocher who both
passed in the month of August so many years ago.
I still think of them so often. You never forget
your grandparents, and I had some good ones.

Happy last day of August and first day back to
school out here.

I heard about Officer Chad Wolfe over the weekend, what a tragedy.

Extending my condolences to Officer Chad Wolf's family. So sad.
Remembering all the loved ones in my family who left us much too soon. My sweet husband, my Mama, my Daddy, my sister, my brother-in-law, and most recently, my wonderful son-in-law. Miss them all so much!

Remembering Uncle Rudolph L. Aittama who passed this month on the 19th, one month shy of his 97th birthday. Unc was a WWII war hero and uncle to over 50 niece's and nephew's. He was also a huge Detroit Tiger's fan, and my buddy. We'll all miss you unc! Hope you're livin it U.P. in Heaven with the rest of the relatives! RIP!

will not be forgotten.

Uncle Chuck--I am so sorry to hear that your Uncle Rudy died this
month. He and my father were buddies. As I have often mentioned
to others, he was one of the most positive men I ever met and had
such a grateful heart. I am certain that he is happy to be reunited
with your Aunt Norma. What a good nephew you were to your aunt
and uncle. Please accept my condolences.

Cyril "Dave" Caspary was one of the first people I
met here in Baraga. I got to spend Saturday mornings
doing laundry with him. He was a POW in Nazi Germany,
and told me many, many stories. He was one of the
finest people God put on this Earth, and now he's got
him back....Fly high, my friend!

UC, so sorry to hear about your uncle. My
condolences to you and your family.

Also, I forgot to mention that I went to school
and hung out with Lyla Warn's daughter. So sorry
to hear of her passing and so sorry for those she
left behind. She was always so kind to me.
