Deb and Ron Simons were here in the U.P. for a visit and one of their stops was at the Porcupine Mountain State Park. They hiked in to check out the Presque Isle River and the falls, bringing back some beautiful shots to share here today.

I like the "warning" sign, since there are people that don't realize the true force of the water with the currents and undertows. Hopefully having this there will prevent someone from having an accident. Of course that would mean they'd have to read it and take heed of what it says. Not everyone does that.

Deb and Ron sure captured all the different aspects of this river flowing, from the falls, to the rock that look like steps for the water to flow over, to the holes worn deep into the rock from the water swirling around them, to the rocky ledges along the shore, where the trees still find ground to take root and grow. There sure is beauty a-plenty here to behold!

Think all I'd have to do is read that sign and decide to go somewhere else. I'd be afraid to go near those falls.:<

Great shots Deb and Mr Deb! Bet there's some dandy trout lurking below those falls, wish I was there!

Mary, from all of the pictures we took, I have no
clue how you're able to choose which ones to
post, lol. There were so many and not enough
room for them all. Just like there's so much to
do and so little time. But we tried to make as
much as we could out of the time we had and boy
did we have a good time. Thanks for choosing
such good ones. I sat on those rocks and just
vegged. It was gorgeous and I could have sat
there all day. But alas, there were too many
hills to climb and places to visit. AND, we
found both thimbleberries and blueberries there.
Needless to say, we ate them, lol!! I swear that
everywhere you go, you find berries. Can't beat
that!

Thanks for sharing these. I hope that if you
haven't been there, you try to make the time
because pictures never do a place justice. This
place was amazing!!

"That's what I'm talk'n bout"...fantastic set, thanks for the outing!

Talk about coincidence! Nat and I were at that same exact spot taking photos just a little less than two weeks ago. I was planning on sending those photos to you Mary, but I see Deb beat me to it! ;-) Oh well, we had a few issues come up with our return trip but things are slowly getting back to normal.

I took a lot of pothole photos from Presque Isle for an upcoming project I'm working on. Hopefully in a couple years the PastyCam will see the finished product.

...and yes, I have been there, Deb...it’s gorgeous! In addition, the drive from the east side of the park to the falls on the Wing was a memorable one.

Outstanding photos. You certainly have captured the beauty of the area. As I've stated before, waterfalls are my favorite of Mother Nature's many offerings. Thanks for sharing the wonderful day you guys had.

Beautiful photos Deb & Mr Deb! And thank you for sharing with us!

By Deb S. (Usedtobeayooper) on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 - 12:13 pm:

We were talking about the trout, George. We
mentioned how much my dad would have loved to fish
that river for some trout. It was his passion.
Every log I saw reminded me of fish hiding
underneath. I love brook trout!!

Thanks a million to Mary and the Debs but mostly the Lord for these special places. I ,too, Alex would love to imagine myself riding our bike UP there. I love falls even more than lighthouses!I'm impressed at the variety of falls...wide, flat, deep, shallow, sharp!!! Oh my what a beautiful painting could be done (sigh!) About where is this area?

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 - 02:05 pm:

Kay, this area is just west of the Porkies. The area where the bridge is, is just upstream from Superior.

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 - 02:20 pm:

This area is my favorite in the Western UP. Since we first started going there they have replaced the bridge and built all the steps & boardwalks down to the falls and along the river. Keeps folks safe along the river and easier than it used to be ~ if you can handle the stairs. Have some pictures of back when i was attending NMU of fishermen along the edge of the river near the bridge. Not exactly sure how they got there and they obviously broke ever warning on the sign!!!

Thanks so much Deb for posting these and sharing with us!
