Me too, jbuck. I find that period so interesting.
I must have seen the mini-series The Blue and the
Gray 5 times. So interesting. I also love
reading about the Holocaust. Such evil people.
It makes me sick, but people should never forget
what evil can do.

The War Between The States was a very sad time...so many young and innocent lives were lost because of the selfish actions of a few politicians in Washington.

Thank God for those few politicians, Shirley. Or
else we would still have human beings owning other
human beings.

Human beings were still owning human beings after Lincoln signed his Emancipation Proclamation, Sarah, because the EP only freed the slaves in the Southern states ~ the Northern states were still allowed to keep their slaves. This is something that many people never knew about the Proclamation. BTW, slavery started in Massachusetts.

To me the period of the Civil War is by far the most interesting part of our history.

Shirley, our Founding Fathers had a golden opportunity to get slavery abolished in 1776 because in the rough draft of the Declaration of Independence was a paragraph criticizing King George III's allowing blacks to be brought to the 13 colonies against their will, but some delegates would not approve the D of I unless that paragraph was removed. The rest is history.
