Fort Wilkins in Copper Harbor was one of the stops David Roberts and his family made while here in the Keweenaw. I don't know if that was a member of his family fishing, but what a great shot, showing how peaceful and relaxing it is to be fishing in such a beautiful spot. It's hard to beat Lake Fanny Hooe for serenity.

Heading inside the Fort for a tour, they found they were just in time for laundry duties, so David snapped a photo of a young girl hauling water for the process to get underway. Life at the Fort isn't all work, either, as you can see from the photo snapped through one of the buildings windows. It looks like some fun is underway out there.

The last two photos were taken at one of David and his wife's favorite stops, Esrey Park between Eagle Harbor and Copper Harbor. He said they've been picnicking and snapping pictures there for 45 years now. I guess you could say it's become a Keweenaw tradition for them!

Yes...peaceful and relaxing. It doesn’t get much better than that.

Wonderful times and wonderful photos, David, thanks for letting us feel that we were taking part in your family's trip!

Awesome pictures...and I LOVE that Tshirt!!!

By jbuck (Jbuck) on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 - 11:30 am:

Great memories of their vacation; makes you wonder how many thousands of picnics have been enjoyed at that table alone. And the t-shirt is PERFECT!!! Why go to salt water when you have the best RIGHT HERE. Roll on, Superior!

I sometimes think it would have been nice to live
during those times. And then I remember how nice
we have it. But to go back for a day or two, it
would be so interesting.

My husband has that same shirt in 2 different
colors. He loves it!!

Deb, that just shows he has good taste in more than just his lovely spouse!

By Dave Roberts (Shutterbug) on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 - 02:20 pm:

I should mention that the young lady in the picture carrying the water buckets is my grand daughter, Gabrielle Roberts, who spent time at the fort as part of a group of kids enacting life as it was back in the past. They do a terrific job and add a lot to the experience of visiting times gone by. Oh --- and jbuck--- my wife, Barbara says thank you very much! ;>)

Fun filled day.
