Forty years ago when Bob Olson and his family started the Canal Run in Hancock, I wonder if they imagined that someday 850 runners would register for the event? That's what happened yesterday, and a fun time was had by all. Bob has been mentioned from time-to-time over the past 18 years of the Pasty Cam, and today we just wanted to congratulate him at this milestone. Bob Olson is now 84 and lives in Cromwell, Connecticut, where you can see more current photos on his Facebook Page.
Another good article about the legacy of Bob Olson in the Copper Country is The Spirit of College Hockey, which appeared back in 2002, a year after Bob retired as the voice of the Huskies. To this day Pasty.NET continues to stream MTU sports on the web, courtesy of WMPL and Mix 93.
The last picture above is the runner we were rooting for, our granddaughter Ellie zipping past Finlandia. It's a photo by her Mom, Dr. Katriina Hopper, and UP Health System-Portage also happens to be one of the races major sponsors.
What a glorious weekend here in the Keweenaw! We understand the rest of the country is sweltering, but it's a pleasant 66 degrees here by the Lake in Eagle River this morning.
That smile says it all; "Today will be Awesome!"

Precious little girl, Ellie. They grow up so fast, enjoy every moment with them, and don't blink. :) Love her t-shirt!!

Ellie is totally precious. You guys must be so proud of her, as we all are of our grandchildren.
My dad loved Bob Olson. They were good friends. I didn't know they moved to Connecticut!! Nice to see him honored!
