If you're at all familiar with Rice Lake, you're most likely aware of the large rock on the far end where the seagulls sit. The locals all know it as Seagull Rock. When Barb Bouwkamp passed by it on her way to their camp this week, she spotted five seagulls sitting there, which she said was something she'd never seen in the 37 years of going around Rice Lake to the camp…maybe one or two, but never five all together. So she grabbed her camera for a picture and as she did, one of them squawked out a screech and they all just lined up, like little soldiers at attention! She thought it was hilarious and said she was ever so grateful she had her good camera with the telephoto lens in her car for these shots. It used to travel everywhere with her, then along came the iPhone, so it's not always along for the ride now.

Barb's bottom photo was one she snapped one early morning out at Traverse. She spotted a fishing boat headed out as the sunrise was taking shape. With the sun rising UP big in the sky, it makes that boat appear so small you can barely see it. Looks like a great way to start a Copper Country summer day!

Wow! My family and I vacationed on Rice Lake for many, many years. Seagull Rock was like a touch stone. No trip was complete until you "cruised the seagull S##t rock! Great shots, Barb. Thanks for the memories!

I love Rice Lake. My aunt had a camp out there
when I was growing up and the water was always so
warm there because it never seemed to get deep.
No matter how far we walked out, it seemed to stay
only ankle deep. That was just how my parents
liked it, lol!

I so enjoyed today's pics. the sunrise is especially
awesome!
