From the Swedetown ponds, to Joy Ziemnick's own backyard, she always seems to find something beautiful and interesting to photograph. Today's photos are no exception, with some striking wild Flag Iris flowers first off.

That first one is something else. Such a deep purple hue, combined with the white and yellow, sure makes this flower stand out. Joy also found lighter purple Flag Iris', equally as beautiful as the first shot, just not quite as bold a color.

Back at home, Joy noticed several butterflies and dragonflies, flitting about and did her best to capture them as well. Both Joy and myself are unsure of what type of butterflies these two are, along with the first dragonfly, so if you can name that butterfly or dragonfly, please do so here below.

Joy did identify the dragonfly in the bottom photo as an Ebony Jeweling Damselfly and mentioned trhat she read where the dragonfly and damselfly belong to the same order of insect, but the way the wings position themselves and the orientation of the eyes is different. The Damselfly is generally smaller than the dragonfly, but has a long, slender abdomen, which looks like it could be somewhat iridescent in the correct lighting.

There is just so much beauty to be found here in the Keweenaw, you just have to get out there and enjoy the ride!

FOOTNOTE: Yesterday's shots from Brenda Leigh were pretty interesting. If you missed them, just click here: Wednesday, July 8th, to take a look at them!

Love these pictures! Those damselflies can sew
your mouth shut :-)

Our irises died off a couple of weeks ago so it's
nice to see them again.

Beautiful, Joy!

Amazing clarity, color and detail...excellent set, Joy!

Wonderful and beautiful photos today! I have the light purple Flag Iris however, they are known as Siberian Iris where I live.

I love each picture today. They are stunningly lovely!

These are utterly amazing photos. Here in the Ishpeming area, the
last of the irises are fading. Same with the lady slippers. I didn't
get here in time to see them at their best, but I was lucky to see
them at all!

My granddaughter thinks the butterfly and wild flowers is a Pearl Crescent and the butterfly landing is a Baltimore Checkerspot

Beautiful photos.

Joy, thanks for bringing these pictures to us.
They are a reminder of the beauty to be found in
the Copper Country where I grew up. These flowers
and creatures were surely a part of living in the
country. The hidden beauty of the area.

Harold, please say thanks to your smart granddaughter for the butterfly I.D.'s! BTW, my hubby just bought me a nice book called "Butterflies of the North Woods"(Weber) since he saw me flittin' around the woods with the butterflies so often! Thank you all for the nice comments.

Irises (flags) have always been one of my favorite flowers.
Yes, Joy, thanks for sharing.;)
