There is a small Island in the Brimley area that Brenda Leigh says is congested with seagulls. She took her favorite kayak there recently and had them flying at her from all directions. They were dive-bombing her as she paddled along and droppings were falling all around her.

The highlight of the excursion though, was spotting this nest of Great Blue Herons on the island. What a treat that was, to be able to see the young ones in the nest like this. Brenda said she had a tough time getting the shot of them, as the seagulls at this point were working hard to keep her away. She said there would have been no way to even get on the island, unless she had some "poop armor" to protect her from the "bombs" those protective seagulls were dropping.

Brenda's last photo is her water ride. That's her favorite kayak, which is more than 30 years old and one of the first and best produced, in her opinion. She has several others, but this is the one she goes to the most for paddles around Lake Superior and other smaller lakes. Like most things now-a-days, they just don't make them like they used to.

Great pictures. I like the pictures of the blue herons. They are a stately bird as are all of the long legged wading birds. At least in my eyes.
