Joe Kirkish has a mystery he'd like us to help him solve. A few weeks ago when he was up at his cottage near Copper Harbor, he said he noticed this yellow-greenish substance coming to shore, very slowly with the waves, as it oozed between the rocks - but there was nothing beyond the rocks as far as he could see to suggest where it came from. He also mentioned that this same phenomenon had occurred once some years back.
So, does anyone have any idea what this pool of yellowish goop is and where it comes from? It is quite mysterious. Is it from the depths of the Lake Superior? Or maybe from the skies above? Inquiring minds want to know...

The yellow goo is pollen. Primarily white pine pollen. It's on your car, patio furniture, everything outdoors but it really shows up in the water.

I am sure it is pine pollen. We get it here when the new foliage comes in. It sure is a pain and gets into everything.

Ask the county extension agent in Houghton for an explanation. If he/she doesn't know they will contact MSU for an answer. But pollen is probably right.
