I'm not certain where Bob Gilreath photographed these various Lupines he shares here today, but they grow across the entire U.P., in fact from coast to coast across the U.S., too. I have a feeling these might be growing right in his backyard, though. They sure are one of the most recognizable of all the wild flowers you see, as they populate the fields and sides of the road. Bob found some deep purple, light purple and even a bit of pink shooting up like a rocket from the ground.
The bush in the bottom photo is pretty, too. I like the bright white against the green of the leaves. I asked Bob what it might be, as I had no clue what-so-ever and his reply made me chuckle, "It's a bush on my stairs. No idea what it is called." So that settled it for me, from now on when I see one of these bushes, it will be, "The bush on Bob's stairs" or maybe "Bob's bush". Kind of makes me wonder if that's not how a number of flowers and plants get their names?

I love the colors of wild flowers as I take a ride out and about

In my book, the lupine is one of the prettiest flowers, but I didn't know that they grow wild. My husband and I planted some one time but they eventually died out.
Could Bob's 'stair bush' possibly be some sort of spirea?

Bob I believe your white flowered bush is a Bridal Wreath Bush. An old fashion favorite.

Don't know what it is, but if I were Bob, I would be making a little extra cash by pawning them off as carnations on prom night. Did someone say Deep Purple? "Smoke on the water - A fire in the sky"

Not only do Lupines grow in the U.P. and across the U.S., we also saw them in many fields across Norway and Sweden a couple years ago as well. Purple, white, and blue were the most common colours.

I'm with Shirley; lupines are my favorites. We also tried to grow them but they never did well. Wondered if the deer or rabbits found them to be tasty.

Beautiful! I have lupines growing in my garden, too. Love them!

Love, love, LOVE lupines! There's a lovely children's book called "Miss Rumphius" about a woman who planted lupines as her legacy.

There are times when the Arizona desert is just a sea of lupines, mainly blue ones! ('Tis interesting that lupines are found in such diverse places/climates!)

I'm with you, Shirley. Lupines are at the top of my list too. Especially the wild ones.

I see Lupines EVERYWHERE as I travel around the Keweenaw this week. It's rare to go a mile without seeing large patches along side the road. I ventured down Smith Fisheries Rd yesterday and discovered an entire field of them.
