It is amazing how our ancestors survived in these sturdy structures ~ the craftsmanship is obvious in that so many are still standing! Thanks Charlie!

Don't know that I've been there but I have been to the Fayette State Park. Loved it!! It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the pictures. I guess that'll have to go on my "to do list", along with the 100's of other things!!

Back in the 1980's, I was one of the lucky students who got to actually live in that very cabin for several days with fellow students as part of our Local History class. We had to wear period-appropriate attire and bring absolutely nothing modern with us. We were there during the winter! We lived for those few days like those early miners and experienced what life was like for them back then. It was the best fun I ever had in school! That experience is one of my most cherished memories.

Somewhere northwest of Marquette, perched on a bluff overlooking a tributary of the Little Garlic River, sits a small cabin I helped build when I was a student at NMU back in the 1970's. It was still there a few years ago when I took my wife to see it, but it needed some love. A guy who had built a camp across the creek was using the cabin as a storage shed for all sorts of junk. Oh the stories you'd hear if only those walls could talk...
The "Victoria" link on this site does not seem to work. Went to look at it this past weekend.

I am so thankful for the pictures you have posted, Charlie; I know you are very busy, we all are thankful for your daily posts, even if they do not include a lengthy explaination! :)
