Nathan Miller has been busy flying his kite and snapping photos to share over on his Facebook page, Kite Aerial Photography with Nathan Invincible. Today he takes us up and over the Quincy Mine campus, so we can get a bird's eye view of all the buildings and equipment there. Nathan said it is a favorite spot of his to fly, as there is so much to look at and plenty of space to move around with his kite.

While he's on the ground controlling the flight of the kite carrying the camera, he draws many a stare from folks passing by, with faces pressed up against their car windows trying to see his kite in the air. His first two shots give you a good view of the shaft house along US41 and a great profile shot of the No. 2 Hoist Houses.

Nathan said while he was there flying and snapping shots, a couple of the tour guides came over to see what he was up to, since they spotted his kite overhead but couldn't see him. One of them had seen his photos on Pasty before! They said they were about to go take the cog train down the hill, so he hustled over to see if he could catch the action and he did. You can see the rail car slowly making its way down the hillside behind the hoists. Nice timing!

The last photo shows all the skips and equipment around the grounds, including the new guide wheels they installed last year and the remains of several of the original buildings off to the right in the shot. You may recall a few Shoebox Memories ago Charlie showed the view inside the shafthouse (video above), but what a contrast to be able to view it all from overhead like this with Nathan and realize the extent of the entire area that encompasses the mining history on top of Quincy Hill.

That certainly brings back some of my fondest memories of the Keweenaw; being a guide at Quincy for 8+ years. Many people ask what my favourite job has ever been and without a doubt I always say "Guide at Old Reliable"!

As always, this will be a definite stop next month when we're UP.

Thanks for the tour Nathan, great pictures as always. I suspect it is a lot more fun flying the kite when the winter months are a fleeting memory again for awhile.
