This past week on Tuesday and Wednesday, the Lake Linden-Hubbell Elementary School held their annual Track and Field Days. Thank goodness the weather held out, no rain and warmer temperatures so the kids could wear shorts and t-shirts for their events.
These photos were taken on Tuesday, when the first through third grade boys and girls were participating in their chosen events. There were long jumpers (which I didn't capture), dash runners and softball throwing competitions for the girls and the boys. I love how the girls that are racing in the second photo are smiling and enjoying the run, while the boys in the third shot look a little more intent and competitive, with more serious faces. My grandson is the tall boy, fourth from the left on the track.
The softball throw was fun to watch, seeing all the different approaches the kids took to throwing that ball. It was also nice to see and hear the young high school helpers encouraging the kids and telling them what a good job they had done. Again, that's my grandson in the last photo, after releasing the ball for his second throw.
It's great to get these kids started in outdoor sports while they're still so young. Hopefully it will give them a lifelong desire to stay active and interested in being the best they can be.
