Bill Haller said he and Eloise live only a quarter mile out of the city limits in Houghton, but that didn't stop the recent visitor they had, especially since it's "open season" on birds (feeders that is).

Sure looks like his visitor feels right at home raiding their feeders right outside the windows of the house. Bill of course stayed safe inside observing this big guy, while snapping these shots. He figures that this bear may be the cub that the mother brought around two years ago, showing it the ropes on how to survive on its own. If so, it looks like he must have been paying attention.

I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but if you google “a fed bear is a dead bear,” you will find many references as to why feeding a bear, intentionally or unintentionally, can lead to its demise. Read the postings and draw your own conclusions. Like Jiminy Cricket said, “Always Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide.”

Yogi has it better than a millionaire, that's because he's smarter than the average bear!

Is that bird seed? I wonder if he tweets.

I don't know; to me, it looks like he can bearly reach that feeder...

I love bears, but I respect the distance we need
between us.

Bears can't Tweet.

They don't have thumbs.

Speaking of bears so close to Houghton reminds me of the bear that got into the back porch of a house in Chassell back in 2007, turned over a refrigerator then couldn't get out because the fridge blocked the door. The bear finally broke out the sheet rock and the walls to get out of the house.

So fun to see the Bears, Deer and other wildlife up close but sadly we are not helping them by having a handy food source. Wildlife will do what it needs to survive sometimes that means they move on.
Just recent a bear has been sited in Berrien Co. Lower Michigan. The DNR is aware and since the bear has posed no threat they are requesting people do not have bird feeders out till it moves on. In populated areas this is the best way to assure the bears and the publics safety.
So fascinating to see
