Ashlee Harvey and family have a menagerie of chickens, some from last year, some grown up from chicks they raised this spring... and of course they have a rooster that lords over them all. Ashlee said the rooster walks around like a sumo wrestler, strutting his stuff. It looks like they have a few different breeds of chickens, too, but I am in the dark as to the name of them, so hopefully someone can fill us in on that.

The rooster may think he's in charge, but the fact of the matter is that their dog, Rascal is the boss of the backyard critters. Ashlee said he does a pretty good job of keeping them in the yard, but even so, the family put up some chicken fencing to keep them more contained and are building them a big chicken coup. That should give them some shelter from the weather and also help keep predators at bay.

Next year they plan to add pigs and a cow, building themselves a little farm. Ashlee said the kids are hoping for a barn cat, too!
