Recently Keweenaw National Historical Park has been posting some 'then-and-now' shots, combining scenes like you'll find at Houghton County Historical Society with current pictures. Their photoshop artistry gives us a window spanning the generations, a kind of time travel pleasant to explore. Speaking of exploring, check out Mike Forgrave's fascinating look at Houghton County Traction Company on his excellent Copper Country Explorer website this month.
This morning's Shoebox Memory is coming from one of the loft cabins at Gitche Gumee in Eagle River where Edie and I are staying while repairs are being done to our home on the other side of town. I just now realize that I forgot to post a link to Facebook (for all of you non-FB Cammies) for that update on our ongoing adventures with health and home and maintaining our sanity, as we continue through this challenging time. Here's the latest on Edie's Facebook Page. Thanks again to all of our online family for your continued prayers and friendship.
Charlie and Edie, praying that you'll be back in your home soon and the rest of the year will be filled with blessings!
When I was about the age of the little girl in the pic, I got to ride on a streetcar before they were phased out for buses. Memories

I have been starting the day with the Pasty Cam for several years and it makes me smile. I love the beautiful photos of the Keweenaw and the joy of the people who live there. Thank you for the map of Calumet that shows Red Jacket. My father was born there in 1925 and this is the first time I have seen it on a map.

My Mom, (Helen) was born in 1918 (Allouez). I recall her mentioning streetcars, I've always wondered where the tracks were located.
