No, you're not seeing things…the Portage Lift Bridge is UP in today's photo from Rob Wetton and if you haven't been here in the Keweenaw for the winter, you're probably thinking, 'big deal', doesn't the Bridge go UP and down on a regular basis? Those of us that live here know what a big deal it is to see it like this, because we've been patiently maneuvering on and off the Lift Bridge all winter, enduring closures (most during the night), single lanes on both sides and congested traffic. So it's really good to see the middle span UP and working again. The work on the Bridge is by no means, done, but the refurbishing of the many cables must be complete now. YAY!

The remaining photos are from Barb Bouwkamp who was finally able to get into the camp at Big Traverse, so she walked along the beach and snapped some shots of the quickly melting ice and the neat formations it was making as it disappeared. Stepping stones, pedestals, mushrooms and beautiful crystals were some of the things she encountered, along with what looks like a whale's tail or maybe this is just a whale tale? Whichever it is, it's sure nice to see the beach sand out at Traverse again.

the ice formations are incredible, mother nature at its best and barb who has the eye to spot it..;O)

it looked weird when the cables and the balance chains were taken off. now that looked strange to see, especially if you know they are suppose to be there.

Pretty neat ice formations today. I like the crystals. Two ice crystals were sitting on the beach talking. One says to the other, 'Be cool, the cooler we are the longer they'll let us hang around.'
