Love the deer, cows, and Nathan's lighthouse pic.

Looks like a good number of Pasty Cammers will have the opportunity to see the northern lights: Space Weather branch chief Brent Gordon said if the storm effects continued through Tuesday evening, there was a "very strong possibility" that the northern lights could be seen as far south as the middle United States, even Tennessee and Oklahoma.

Maybe someone can get some pictures to share!

Mary says: Stay tuned for tomorrow (Wednesday)...we'll have some Keweenaw lights from this past weekend! ;-)

Saw the lights this morning. Can't post a picture because this site makes it so hard. The lights were beautiful. Posting this link if you want to see them.

You'll have to copy and paste. This site doesn't make it easy.
Mary says: I fixed the link so it works.
All it needed was this..(minus the space after the word "link":
\link {https://www.facebook.com/LakeSuperiorPhoto,Lake Superior Photo
}

It's really not that hard once you get used to "computer talk".
Here's a cheat sheet that will help: Pasty.com Formatting Posts. Check out the info for posting "Hyperlinks".
Please remember though, that you should not post anyone else's photos without their permission. Thank you!

Almost forgot, the Porkies are still at number one. Please vote, if you care.

The USA Today poll is interesting, but in my opinion also meaningless. One lesson I have learned from living all over the world is that the earth is blessed with many beautiful and different locations. How is it even possible to make a comparison of the stark beauty of the desert to the verdant beauty of the Northwoods? How can the majesty of the sea’s power be compared to the grandeur of the high mountains? All are amazing places, but very, very different places. I think they should be appreciated for their unique splendour. Voting for one over another seems a lot like choosing a favourite child.

I treasure the years that I lived in the U.P. and I love hiking in the Porcupine Mountains, but how can I choose that over learning geology from my father as we wandered Antelope Island together? And how can I vote for that over the amazing time my husband and I spent on the coast at Ecola Park? And what about the first time I stood in a grove of redwoods and gazed up at the giants of nature who had witnessed the march of so many years? I guess I just don’t understand why everything has to be a competition. Why can’t we simply celebrate the beauty in all those places, and be happy that the Upper Peninsula is counted among them.

Well said, Nat! And you are so right. There are
so many beautiful places in our country. It's so
hard to pick one. It's great to see Michigan even
listed. Minnesota isn't listed anywhere that I
can see. And there are some gorgeous State Parks
here. I love Gooseberry State Park so much! I've
even found thimbleberries there. And the falls
are awesome, as well as the hike down to the big
lake.

Amen Dr. Nat!!!
Well said. You hit the nail on the head with your very insightful and mature outlook. Indeed, voting for the #1 Best of any natural creation is almost childish.
Making it a competition makes no sense.

I also love the Keweenaw. I was born there, and have spent my early years and many summers there, spent my money there, and am still a taxpayer because I own property there. But will that make me narrow minded and insist that it is the #1 place? No. I too, am very glad that I left the area to experience the outside world, and see things that are beyond words. Once one does, only then can they realize there should be no competition for one beautiful natural treasure over another.
