The names George and Paulette Beveridge may ring a bell for some of our regular Pasty Cam viewers, but normally associated with a Ruffed Grouse named Pretty Bird. Not today though, George and Paulette had a different visitor and they were able to get within 8 feet of it.

It sure is a good looking Eagle, but I'm not sure if it's an Immature Bald Eagle or a Golden Eagle, so I thought I'd throw it out there for discussion and see what all of you think it is.

In the meantime, George and Paulette said they enjoyed seeing it around that day, as long as it didn't go near Pretty Bird. ;-)

Excellent pictures! Thanks for sharing them!

What beautiful photos of this immature eagle. It is
amazing that it allowed them to get so close. We have
a pair in our area. I have attempted to get close
enough to just get a photograph but they take to the
air immediately before I am even within 70 feet of
them. I hope too Pretty Bird is not a meal for it.

They either have a really powerful lens on their
camera, or that's one brave eagle. Either way,
terrific pictures!

My 'guess' is a Golden eagle, Mary.

No matter which it is, like all eagles, it's a majestic bird!!
Thanks, George and Paulette.

Great pictures. I don't know what kind of eagle it is so I'll just call it a regal eagle.

By Shirley Waggoner (Shirlohio) on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 - 10:03 am:

I Googled immature 'bald eagle' and it stated that they have dark heads ~ so perhaps that's what it is.

Nice raptor and blue skies!

Amazing pictures! What ever type of Eagle this one is, it's very majestic!

That is a great pic of a young eagle!

By Dan N. (Daninca) on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 - 01:52 pm:

It is young Bald Eagle. We had one here at our work a few weeks ago, (in Livermore Ca.) The on site biologist identified it as a young bald eagle. They change color as they mature.
* A quote from the biologist*
It typically takes six years for the bald eagle to reach maturity and display the familiar yellow iris, yellow beak, white head and tail that is indicative of the adult.

Very nice pic, and a majestic bird of prey.

By Dan N. (Daninca) on Tuesday, March 10, 2015 - 05:07 pm:

Me again. I emailed our biologist and his reply is yes, it is young bald eagle.

*Awesome Dan; yes, definitely a bald (big head and bill) just under a year old (growing new “dark” breast feathers).
Never get tired of seeing eagles!
Thanks for sharing.

He is an interesting fellow, and very knowledgeable.

Thanks for that info, Dan N. ~ see, we learn something new every day! ;)

By Dan N. (Daninca) on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 - 04:19 pm:

You're welcome Shirley. We DO learn things every day. I love eagles, and miss the U.P. There weren't any that I can remember when I lived there. (that was almost 40 years ago) There were no wolves, fishers, moose....wow, the Yoop is going back to the wild more each year. I used to fish the small streams in the deep woods during my youth. I would have some trepidation to go to the places I went fishing back then, given the changes. There were PLENTY of coyotes, and bears though. My faithful, loyal dog, always blazed the trail for me. Clearing the way, of danger.
