Around the Great Lakes there are a number of shrines or memorials, for example, Bishop Baraga overlooking Keweenaw Bay. Edie and I are still in Petoskey, where it just so happens, yesterday was the annual trek to the Underwater Crucifix in the Bay. Divers can see it year round, but for the rest of us land-lubbers they carve out the ice immediately above it for viewing one day each year.
There was quite a crowd there as Jonathan and I got our shoes filled with snow walking from the harbor. We eventually decided there wasn't enough time for the line to make the round-trip before we had to be back at the hospital. Katriina, Ellie and Jon were here visiting with us in the Acute Rehab unit, where Edie is recovering from surgery.
Our thanks to EmmetCounty.org, where you can see more about this Diver's Memorial, its history and ongoing tradition. And thanks to all the folks in Pastyland who have expressed your prayers and best wishes for Edie's continued healing.
Have a good week :0)
