You may recall this 1905 postcard of loading copper bars on a previous Shoebox Memory. This weekend I ran across the original photo at very high resolution, which lets us zoom right in and count the hairs in the mustaches. It is fascinating to look at each player in this living mural, to see their expressions and clothing up close. Bandwidth warning: the original is a 14 megabyte file
Sorry for this late-in-the-day kickoff to year 18 of the Pasty Cam. When I can find some time, I'll try to give an update on the challenges Edie and I have been facing in recent days, which finds her again in the hospital in Petoskey. We have a greater appreciation for the Pasty Cam, keeping us in touch with what's happening back home in the U.P. while we are away.
Thanks to everyone who has joined us on this journey from time to time, with our daily glimpse of life from the U.P., Day in History, and Sunday Shoebox Memory. Have a good week :o)

So sorry to hear that Edie is back in the hospital, Charlie. Know that you're both being kept in my thoughts and prayers. May God watch over you, Edie!
Charlie, I see great character and fortitude in the faces of these men. I'm sure they did their jobs well.

Sorry to hear about Edie, Charlie. I pray that whatever is happening with her, gets taken care of.
Love these old pictures. Sure must have been hard living during these times.

Charlie, my Best Wishes, prayers and thoughts for you and Edie. Thank you for all you do, as you keep me in touch with the UP when I'm not there too! I've been with the Pasty Cam daily since the very beginning in 1996 (or 1997??). Amazing pictures of those tough hard working dudes. Thank you!

1998 after looking at the What's Up. Time becomes a blur after so many years.

We did have pictures in '96 and '97, although they were not on a daily basis. The very first pictures were in 1995 of the snow thermometer. That was even before we acquired the pasty.com name :o)
