As we were publishing the Pasty Cam this morning, the Weather Channel featured MTU's Winter Carnival during the morning weather update. Neat!

Guess who is in the area for the Michigan Tech Winter Carnival? It's Paul and Nathalie Brandes, a.k.a. Capt. Paul and Dr. Nat. They arrived in town just in time for the All-Nighter statue building event. With it being 0° F and -22° wind-chill, they bundled up and walked around campus checking out the works in progress. Paul said it was fun to relive the days of his own statue building endeavors 20+ years ago. The big difference for him all these years later, is that he says he's slightly smarter and only spent about 4 hours checking out the statue building, rather than all night like he did in his college days.
The photos shared here today give you a good idea of the work that goes into these snow sculptures. Showing the scaffolding, hard hats, work lights and tools to form the snow into the amazing architecture they become. You get to see the piles of snow, looking like just that…snow piled up and the beginnings of what the design will become. It is quite the engineering feat!
Stay tuned for tomorrow's Pasty Cam, we'll have some of the finished products to check out then.

Thanks, Paul & Nat!! These guys put so much work into these statues, and they're always so great! Looks as if this year will be no different!

This year, I worked with my church, St. Al's, in building St. Peter's Basilica. We worked from the start time to the finish time, about 14 hours. We were able to take first place in the all nighter category.
