Michigan Tech's Winter Carnival theme this year is, While Frozen in the Ice and Snow, We Dream of Vacations on Which to Go. The festivities are already underway, having begun yesterday, February 4th and will continue through Saturday, February 7th. In the meantime, Eric Pohl takes us on campus to where the Broomball games are under way. If you're unfamiliar with the game, it is similar to ice hockey, only the participants wear street shoes and move a ball across the ice with duct tape covered brooms. The goal is actually a box (which you can see in the top photo) and the goalie is on their knees for the entire game. Looks like a fun event to attend and cheer for your favorite team.

I first heard of Broomball while living in ND ~ it was a big thing out there.

As we were walking around the All-Nighter last night, Nat and I were watching a little broomball. I remember playing that 20+ years ago as a student, and now I hear they had formed some alumni leagues this year...... anyone want to show the youngin's how it's done?? ;-)

Nice...every once in a while, for a break, I go to the MTU webcams and watch a game. It looks like they are playing right now (8:50am), in the Black Rink and its 2 degrees outside.

I am just weird. When I take vacation I don't dream of other places to go, it is to Winter Carnival time.

I can see my old dorm room window! It's amazing how little, if at all, that particular scene has changed. Thanks, Eric!
