Nathan Miller and his trusty aerial photography kite were out and about recently, photographing Chassell from above. Nathan told me that the weather this winter has been making it difficult to fly a kite and get landscape shots of the area, with it being so cloudy and snowy. I'm guessing that the amount of winds we've had hasn't helped either, since there have been so many days with powerful gusts.
For today's photos of Chassell, Nathan flew his kite rig from the Centennial Park, where the old sawmill used to be on the waterfront. The first shot is the boat launch on Pike Bay, but the only thing launching from there this time of year are snowmobiles and ice shanties.
Next is a shot with the old Knights of Pythias Hall, which was also used as the Community Building and is now abandoned. There were some kids walking by, you can see them on the corner. They were naturally intrigued by what Nathan was doing there and really liked the giant kite.
The third photo shows off the main part of town, with the historic Chassell Schools (now the Heritage Center) up on the hill. You can also see the various churches scattered around the town.
In the last photo you can see the town park pavilion surrounded in white and Nathan's snowshoe tracks as he crisscrossed the field to vie for the best angles, while dodging trees and power lines.
Every town deserves to be turned into a gingerbread village and Kite Aerial Photography is one of the best ways to do that!
