This weekend was an unusual one for the Lift Bridge over the Portage Canal in the Keweenaw. There was a rare closing of the Bridge overnight for maintenance. The Shoebox Memory shot above from the Michigan Tech Archives shows the bridge in it's initial stages of construction back in the late 50's, and the flashing sign is one we saw last night on US 41 over at the east end of MTU by the parking lots.

It just so happens yesterday we had an outage of our broadband relay at the Sand Hills Lighthouse on 5-Mile Point Road. Normally I would just drive over from our home in Eagle River, but we happened to be in Marquette Friday night and needed to be back in Marquette Saturday night. So it was about a 180 mile round trip instead of 7 or 8 miles. Jonathan and I went up to Sand Hills in the early afternoon, did the repairs at the Lighthouse, then made it back over the bridge before 9pm <whew>.

A little late in the day again for our Sunday picture. That's what happens when I'm tied up most of the day Saturday. And just as I'm getting ready to upload this, the Packers-Seahawks Game concluded. Not a very satisfying conclusion, I might add, as it seems Seattle mainly won because of the coin-flip for an unfair sudden death overtime. I'm just sayin'.

And I agree about the OT..... what a lousy process to determine the game. When are they going to change the OT rules?!

Apparently not only is the lift bridge in a big messed up situation. But now, somewhere in the last few days I've lost the WHATS UP on my machine! I know I'm one of the stupidest computer operators around but these things happen to me and I'm totally lost in "Computer land" Anyone else having the same problem? I think I've tried every thing I can think off. Can anyone help? Thanks and goodnight all.
