Wow... that's what I said (out loud), when I opened my Inbox and saw today's photos from Joy Ziemnick. Her hubby Jim joined her on a snowshoe excursion through the woods here in the North Country. She said they bundled well, as it was one of our sub-zero days and only her fingers got cold. Like I said the other day about winter exercise, it warms you while you're out there enjoying the beauty.
Joy also told me that she is in awe of the pure white snow and the art that it creates as it finds a landing spot. I completely agree on that one…these photos today show such outstanding winter beauty; it must have been scenes like this that coined the term "Winter Wonderland" for the U.P.
Now for the picture of Jim with the stick. My first thought was that it was his walking stick, but Joy said he uses it to sink in the snow to measure the depth. It's 4.5 feet long and on this excursion he measured almost 4 feet in spots. He also uses it to knock down boughs of snow before they brush against them and get a cold snow shower down the neck.
Joy's last photo was taken looking down 6th St., near the Calumet Theatre, just a couple days ago. Looks like it was during one of our snow events and sure depicts a beautiful scene, so I had to include it with today's snowy shots.

When the cold snows of winter Lay heavy on the bough I firm up my resolve and say "I'll make it through somehow" Those are very nice pictures of a new fallen snow.

Looks like a healthy trek, pushing through that snow.

I once drove my car on the sidewalk thru that arch in from of the Calumet Theater on a dare. If memory serves, the police station was just around the corner.....but we didn't get caught! Great photos today, thanks Joy!

Do they still choppers? Your fingers will never get cold in a pair of choppers. My Grandmother used to knit a pair of woolen mittens to put inside leather shells with no fingers except the thumb. Put those on and you can laugh at the cold.

I absolutely love going through the woods when the trees are all covered like that. Wonderful photos!
