LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The granddaughter of Michigan's first state forester has donated his compass, coat and other artifacts to the Michigan Historical Museum.
Marcus Schaaf was hired in 1910 as the first forester at the Michigan Public Domain Commission, an agency that eventually became the Department of Natural Resources. He's credited with developing, surveying and consolidating millions of acres of forest over 40 years.
The DNR says the donations include Schaaf's heavy wool coat, which is lined with animal fur, and a 66-foot metal measuring tape.
Museum director Linda Endersby says she grateful that Suzan Schaaf is sharing her grandfather's legacy.
Hope it has been a pleasant weekend for you and your family. Unusually busy for Edie and me, here at the Beacon House in Marquette. How about that Green Bay win!
Have a good week :o)

If Mr. Schaaf were around today, PETA would give him grief about that coat.;> Charlie, hope you and Edie can get some much needed rest this week!
