This mine was located near present day Phoenix. As most mines during this time, it never amounted to much.
The company left behind some attractive currency, known as "sight drafts". These were actually similar to a check, but were used like currency due to the remote locations of the Lake Superior mines.

Bay State
Here is a very rare photo of the Bay State Mine, probably 1870, shortly after it closed. You can clearly see 2 shaft buildings, plus a variety of other structures. The large structure in the center appears to be a stamp mill, especially since it is built next to a pond.
