Be sure to come to the South Range Community Center on Friday, January 18 for an evening of dance.

At 6 p.m., prior to the fund-raising activities, the center is hosting tango lessons. For only $15 per couple (or $8 for singles; partners aren't necessary) anyone can learn the Finnish tango -- and then show it off at the dance!

Then, the well known Finn Hall band takes the stage, and folks from everywhere can enjoy their favorite Finnish dance tunes – waltzes, polkas, schottisches and raatikkoons – on one of the largest wooden dance floors in the Copper Country.

The South Range Community Hall, built from local Jacobsville sandstone, is a focal point in the village of South Range, a center for traditional ballroom-style dancing – even today.

“The biggest crowd we ever had for a Suomi Kutsuu dance was at the South Range Hall," states Carl Pellonpää, host of TV6’s “Suomi Kutsuu," the only Finnish-language television program in the U.S.

The dance runs from 7:15 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The Kivajat Dancers will perform for the first 15 minutes of the dance. Admission is $8, payable at the door. Refreshements will be available.
