For several months, green has been the predominate color all across the U.P. This is probably the last week before we see it give way to red, yellow, and gold.

Also a reminder locally that a lot of the civic groups have returned to their regular meeting schedule, after the summer break. Keweenaw Lions will be meeting again tonight at Slim's in Mohawk, and on Wednesday the Keweenaw Industrial Council returns to its regular monthly breakfast gathering at the Uppco building in Houghton.

where is slims in mohawk.sounds like it might be a bar or restaurant.

By Candy, CA on Monday, September 9, 2002 - 09:08 am:

Slim's is on the north of Mohawk on US-41, just before the White House Motel and the Secretary of State's lighthouse. It's on the right as you head north, with a large parking lot facing the highway. If you pass the White House (motel or restaurant), you've gone too far. Slim's has delicious homemade meals and the most wonderful bread you've ever had!

By John, MI on Monday, September 9, 2002 - 09:10 am:

Slim's is a restaurant. It's on the right going out of Mohawk towards Phoenix on US41. Just about across from the White House, which is a bar and restaurant.

Anyone notice that this tractor doesn't have a front end?

Quoting John above... This really makes me homesick! This is barely a mile from where my Grandmother Tiensivu lived. In fact, when she died, my dad and I stayed at the White House Motel, if I'm not mistaken. (I see it referred to as a bar and restaurant above).

I am seriously talking to my family about moving to the U.P. The more I read here, the more I think it would be a good decision!

This Website is simply the best!

Slim's is just in front of the big house my grandma and grandpa lived in. You can't miss it!!! :)

The "tractor" was probably one of the experimental models of the Segway Human Transporter, eh?

By Al, Ca on Monday, September 9, 2002 - 07:59 pm:

Could the front-end just be "goin' to heck" ? he,he,he

By Fred on Monday, September 9, 2002 - 08:06 pm:

But it's got good tires!

By PA,MI on Monday, September 9, 2002 - 09:28 pm:

The White House is a bar and restaurant; the White House Motel is across the highway from the bar.

By Ken from da UP on Monday, September 9, 2002 - 11:55 pm:

That old tractor looks like an International Farmall, but dunno which model. Like 'Fred' says those tires look pretty good. They look TOO good to be sitting in the woods rotting away. Maybe the missing engine is somewhere being rebuilt? Where did you find this, Charlie? Is the rest of it also in da voods?

Can someone let me know how or where I can find out when the leaves will be changing colors, and about when they will be at there peak in the Keweenaw? Is there a website for this sort of thing? Is this usually the same time every year or does it change? Want to come up and see the beautiful colors! Thank's

Dan, try the West Michigan tourist Asso. web site. WMTA. They have great maps and route ideas. I love Pasty Cam. I work a lot and a vacation is nothing but a pipe dream so I come here and get to visit the UP everyday. Thank you everyone who makes this possible.

The White House is our favorite place to stay when we come up.

By Melissa, Grand Ledge, MI on Tuesday, September 10, 2002 - 11:32 am:

Dan in Wisc: I'd give the first or second weekend in October a try, the colors are usually great both of those weekends. Be prepared for any kind of weather though, it's snowed the first weekend in October for the past couple of years!
