What a perfect day, so perfect I almost forgot I'm still Pasty Cam editor for a few more ('til Charlie gets back anyway). Wish I could just jump inside this picture, catch a cool drink from that waterfall, grill up some Vollwerth wieners, and partake with friends around those picnic tables. Thanks for the mini vacation, JoAnne.

I believe it is Haven Falls and Haven Park on the northside of Lac la Belle just west of the old stampmill. Red Sands is actually the tailings from that mill which stamped the conglomerate rock from the Delaware Mine.

I recognize the falls at Lac La Belle. And the little park. I have a picture of my kids there from way back in '69 or '70. Mimi and I were there just a month or so ago. :o) My aunt and uncle had a cottage there, Elwood and Toini Jaaskelainen. They're both gone now. :o( Mimi's sister and bro-in-law also had a cottage there.

Was going through some old photos and came across this one, taken about 10 years ago. Pretty much looks the same, even now. What is it with boys and sticks?
I remember years ago (the 1980s) a group of my fellow buddies and I had a picnic in JANUARY at Haven Falls. We were all from Calumet AFS up on Mt. Horace Greeley...my supervisor, Paul Timm decided one day that we should have a picnic...we dug down to the grill, grilled Brats, sat ON THE TOP of the picnic tables and had a wonderful time...there were at least 20 of us that went that day...(snow was 5 feet deep)...we US Air Force guys did some weird stuff back then, but I'll NEVER forget that wonderful day! The Keweenaw is truly a magical place!
