Sports plays a big role in our lives here in the U.P... According to the Copper Country Soccer Association, over 750 kids from Houghton, Hancock, Calumet and surrounding region play on 64 teams in 7 age divisions. That takes a lot of volunteer time and energy on the part of many area residents. We applaud their efforts and cheer on the athletes in their pursuit of excellence.

Our thanks to Donn de Yampert for giving us the feel of the competition on a typical beautiful day in the Keweenaw.

The chase

Is this one of the fields up at MTU? In the top photo is that the other side of the Portage Canal in the distance? Ah, to be home again;)

My years in soccer were some of the best. What exhilaration cruising across the field, sensing the movement of your teamates like jets flying in formation! The danger and excitement of fighting for control -, your pictures bring it all back. Thanks much.

WOW, what a great site. The pictures certainly say it all! Now being one of the founding Copper Country Soccer Association Board members, this picture really brings the memories back. I commend all the players and coaches for continuing to grow the program. Cudos to MTU for continuing to provide the use of the fields. By the way the uniforms look great.

They do a great job it sounds like! I've visited their website, http://www.eteamz.com/CopperCountrySoccer/ many times!

I'm heavily involved in our soccer program here in Oscoda and know what it takes to run a soccer program! Everyone involved should be congratulated!

Here's our website if anyone is interested! http://www.eteamz.com/Oscoda/

Tim - - Great little website you got there. I'm still dancin' to the music and laughin' at Baby Face!! Nice map to spot Oscoda, too.

Go Wildcats!

When did the soccer program start? When I I was born in 73 and growing up in hancock I don't recall soccer in the community. I was mainly hockey which I loved greatly.
