After such a dry July, this month is off to a stormy start. Three of our Pasty Cam reporters captured these scenes following yesterday's violent weather. (Rob Wetton -top, Scott Laurie -middle, R.C. Wetton -below)

We are weathering storms of a different kind at Still Waters these days, the home of Pasty Central. In case you missed our discussion back on June 27, you can review it here. We appreciate all the encouragement from our online friends to keep on keeping on, in spite of adversity.

Wow! Where were these pics taken?

By Becky,Lansing/Tamarck on Friday, August 2, 2002 - 11:48 pm:

I was watching this storm carefully. I drove back to Lansing on the 21st of July-not a picnic. Negaunee was flooding and it was pitch black at 5 pm I turned off on 35 and had to turn back because of downed power lines-a little damage on 41 and then on 2 it started all over again, plus a burning vehicle and a total suicide mission of fish flies..stopped in Naubinwayfor the nite, plus the bridge was closed..one scarey nitemare. We missed damage in Tamarck, says my husband. One thing I found during all my turmoil was the people were out clearing the roads before the EMT's got there-life is good in the UP. Will be leaving soon to get back-can't wait. Smile everyone, it would be worse in troll land.

does anyone know the rainfall or wind measurments for that storm?

By Scott Mohawk on Saturday, August 3, 2002 - 11:06 am:

The pic I took is on Bumbletown hill. Around the corner from this tree down three more came down just barely missing three houses. I believe the four that came down were lombardi poplars, huge trees as you can surely see.

Our photo doesn't do justice to the damage we incured. We had a total of 11 pines & 2 maples destroyed, plus damage to the house and garage.

Mother Nature was cleaning house. You just stay way out of her way when she gets in one of them moods!

Hei, Scott/Mohawk, are you sure they aren't those big Eastern Cottonwoods? There's a few of them in the Cornell area and they are BIG.

RCW, looks like you really got your hands full in $ Bay, too. Wow! BOB in this instance must mean Boy Oh Boy! Any wind like that in Bootjack?

By RCW Bootjack on Sunday, August 4, 2002 - 07:32 am:

You hit the nail on the head Ken. Quite a bit of damage down here also.Even heard that a new Cadillac was totaled by a tree fall

That row of pine trees has been there since before I was born, and I'm 44 years old now! Sorry to see that they're down. What a mess, wish that I could be there to help clean up, also to enjoy the Northern Lights. Was home last month and did not see them.
