We conclude Lighthouse Week near the place we began, this time off the northeast tip of Isle Royale. These contrasting perspectives came from two independent sources, Glen Parks (top) and Mary Drew, who was on the Island this week.

A busy week it has been, the Pasty Cam receiving a record amount of photos - 10 times more than we were able to post. We could have had 'Lighthouse Month' instead. Thanks to all who sent pictures, and we hope you'll keep those Pasty Cam's clicking.

This is really a picturesque lighthouse with those stone walls, Charlie. I've never seen it before. Is that some kind of solar panel perched near the front door or another kind of signal light?

We had some of the lightning and thunder and lots of rain here in Cornell, but it didn't last very long. The cool feels much better. Thanks for the lighthouse pix, Charlie and photogs. Sure are nice to look at. I love living UP here!!

Cousin Jack,

Yes, that is a solar panel in front of the lighthouse. If you look at Glen Parks photo, you can see the "tram track" at the far left of the picture. There's a dock over there (in need of repair though)where they used to pull in to bring their supplies. Then they'd transport them up on a cart and pully system, up that track. Wouldn't you love to hear all the stories these lighthouses could tell?

Does anyone know of the site for an Island Lighthouse that was bought by a couple from MI? It looks similar to this lighthouse with a very rugged shoreline but, if I remember correctly, it was a smaller island. They were in the process of restoring the light and all out buildings. They have a great site with several web-cams and a photo gallery to view progress. I had the site bookmarked but had to reload my system and lost the link :(

If anyone knows of this lighthouse or the link to their website, I would greatly appreciate it if you could post it here for me.

Mike B-

The site you are looking for is for the Granite Island Light Station at www.graniteisland.com.
It is a great site. Enjoy.

Eric

Thanks Mary. Yes the stories would be great to hear. I suspect one would have be a keeper for awhile to get a feel for just how they might sound.
