Normally this time of year the highways are snow covered and sanded across most of the U.P. But even way up here in the Keweenaw we are seeing excellent driving conditions. This is the year to take in Heikinpäivä and the Winter Carnival!

Come on up to the UP.

Thanks, Charlie, but you forgot to mention the URL for the event. We've been working hard on the Heikinpäivä website. Soon we'll be having a webcam set up so everyone can see the Lumitalo (snow house)as it's being built. Be sure to visit this link for the lastest scoop. (no pun intended). Heikinpäivä Winter 2002

This is really Jonathan's year. Even the weatherman is giving his endorsement by scheduling good weather and good roads for the frequent trips to Marquette. :)

"Good" weather?!! You must be kidding! Snow country without snow is terrible weather! As for me, I'm praying with the skiers, snowmobilers and the many UP businesses that depend on them, for feet and more feet of the beautiful white stuff. Come on winter!

I have to agree with aywb, we need more snow here
in snow country! At least we were blessed with a
white xmas. But much more is needed! Come on,
Heikki Lunta... kick up those heels. Perhaps he only listens to requests in Finn. " tuleppas Heikki-poika tanssimaan, täällä lisää lunta
tarvitaan" Bring on winter!

Seeing this stretch of Alberta road always gets my saliva glands goin' don't you know. Yep! Jus' heard my stomach growl too. Opening its jaws in cruel anticipation for that first glazed chunk of Hilltop cinnamon roll to come tumbling down.
Mmm, cinnamon...

By Mike, Pontiac on Tuesday, January 8, 2002 - 04:39 pm:

The cookie monster knows what he's talkin' about. Picture yourself only half way through a roll with a steaming cup of Joe watching the blowing snow extend the edge of a roofline and make roadsigns look like they were built for Lilliputians. You're full but like the snow you can not STOP...The all knowing created this fine piece of landscape and placed Hilltop on the trigger like a piece of cheese. We poor mice types never stood a chance - we are forever trapped in the upper peninsula of our minds...
Long live Cookie Monster...
