My son and i went and looked at the old Norwegian
Church that is open for Heritage Days.My Aunt and Uncle, Verna (Winquist) and Uncle, John Brown lived
in the house that adjoins the church when i was a
small girl.I remember listening to the services.

hi - just curious, was reading June, 2001 messages and there was one from "Charlie - Onekama" -- i lived in Onekama for quite a few years, moved to Florida three years ago - I was born and raised in Lake Linden, graduated from LLHS, had planned to attend a class reunion up there next week, but had foot surgery and cannot make it this year. Going up to Onekama for a month in a couple of weeks tho.

I received an e-mail from my cousin from this website. It involved a picture of a milk truck on display at the Hut, which was identified as a Jilbert's Dairy truck. Someone wrote an e-mail saying that this "38" Dodge belonged to Gaspardo Bros. from Lake Linden. This truck belonged to my father and uncle and my brother and I remember it vaguely being stored in one of the farm buildings. It was yellow then. I am curious to know who knew this info and where was this truck all these years? We assume my dad sold it at some point, but are curious as to where it's been.

Hi there Yupers!!! My hubby's family lives in S.
Range. We try and visit yearly cause it's such
a special place. The 4th of July celebration is
a riot. I have never been to another parade
where they drive snow removal machines
down the center of the main drag. When we
visit we camp at McClain S.P. It is the most
beautiful campground we have ever seen.
The sunsets on Lake Superior are awesome.
We are leaving for this wonderful place in 3
days. Our stay will be 2 weeks, but it will fly by
too quickly. It will be nice to see our family
once again.

I have become aware that their are alot of our
people from the old country(Finland) avidly seeking their relatives here in the Copper Country.The Finnish American Reporter(FAR) has done alot to publish inquires. I have helped out several people trace their family back to Finland but am having problems tracing them here to the Keweenaw.Part of the problem is that i don't have much reference material for local geneology.
Does anyone have an old telephone book that they would like to sell? Wish i would have the foresight to save them when i was young. I have found a few "Kirkollinen Kalenteri" (church books)
locally at resale stores which are helpful.But an
older phone book would be wonderful.
One more thing, i have a person in Finland looking for his ancestor who emigrated to Calumet,
EMIL KULMANEN.He may have changed the spelling of his last name.If this was a relative of yours, please email me.

I have been told that the Keweenaw Riff runs from Copper Harbor to as far south to Kansas underground, also that the Keweenaw riff is one big magnetic anomaly. Is this correct??

I was born and raised in the Detroit area. My
parents were from Calumet and Laurium. I can't
tell you how I feel about the CC. It is a very
special place for me. My husband and I try to
make the trip at least 2 to 3 times a year.
Usually staying in either Hancock at the Ramada,
Calumet at the Americinn,or Copper Harbor at the
Bella Vista. The Peace and Beauty of the CC is
outstanding. Each round of a corner is such a
breathtaking view. The people are always so
friendly and down to earth. Soon I will retire
and maybe be able to visit the area more often,
or better yet, to find a place to live up there.

About the picture on June 11, I didn't see where any one had guessed that car in the caved in garage near Jacobsville. I think its about a 1953 or a 1954 Plymouth.

I've been trying to remember when is the last time I was in the CC. Was it in the early eighties when Lake Linden Hubbell High School had the big all school reunion? Or was there a family reunion there in the early nineties. In either case it's been a long time. Now we are having a family reunion in early July and I can hardly wait. Please have beautiful weather and no caterpillars.

June Bugs! Hey, we have june bugs in California too. They're pretty good about confining their visit to just the month of June, but they sure are pests. I don't remember them from when I lived in Michigan, but that was a long time ago!

I guess what could be considered bugs would be the cadis at hatch. Around Escanaba we used to call them 'Green Bay Flies'. Between Escanaba and Gladstone on the old road in the 50's they often made the road slippery.
June Bugs are June Bugs are June Bugs. Crunchie buggers when you step on them and not much good for fishing either.

I thought you lived in Fort Myers. No? If that's so I'm surprised. We live in Cape Coral and have never seen love bugs here in any great number. We saw a lot of them one summer, spring?, when we lived in Miami and crossed over on the toll road from I 95 to I 75. They were so bad you couldn't see. The Detroit area on the East side near Lake St. Clair used to have June bugs really bad. They would crunch when you drove up Jefferson Avenue. We haven't seen any of them here, either.
