So...Do we have a "UFO" hovering over the bridge, or do we have a light left on in the room that the Bridge Cam is in?

Speaking of sauna's I have a funny story. When I was in grade school, several times a month I would spend the night at a friends house, and taking a sauna at their house was a nighlty routine. One night her mischievious brother decided to lock us in the sauna, but instead broke the handle. We pounded on the door till our fathers heard our screams. After some time of trying to fix the door we ended up squeezing through a very small window out to fresh air. We were scared and excited all at once. I know to this day they still enjoy their sauna in Houghton Michigan. I think the funnest saunas are the ones where there is a lake or snow bank just waiting for you to jump in after the hot treat!!

Karen,
I understand why you want a sauna when you move to Kentucky. In 1984 my husband and I bought a farm in upstate New York and a first priority was having a sauna built into the small barn on our property (formerly a chicken coop). When I packed up my belongings of four generations on the farm in Toivola, I also packed the rocks from the stove, which came from the shores of Agate Beach. The spirits of my ancestors are in those rocks. During my entire childhood I loved the sauna. When I was a teen I would spend so much time in the sauna that sometimes my mother would come to see if all was well. I did some of my most serious dreaming there, however, in my wildest dreams, I never imagined that I would live in New York City for twenty-seven years, a city full of excitement and nowhere-else-in-the-world experiences.
A year ago we moved to our farm, but still have an apartment in the Big Apple. Never did I encounter a sauna as good as the one with a wood-burning stove that just invited a dipperful of cold water. I designed our sauna in the same layout as the one at my home, though smaller, and with a homemade wood-burning stove.
Enjoy Kentucky.
Janet

Hello to all, I simply love this site. Papa was born and raised in Baraga. I remember all those wonderful trips to the farm. The saunas, the lakes, and especially the pasties. Heaven.. I married a ky. boy and we are soon to move from flint area there. I told him I will go but I must have a sauna. I believe I will be the only person in westren ky. with a sauna... I have a painting my cousin did of the old sauna where 3 generations of Pennala's spent many happy hours... The U.P. will always hold a special place in my heart.. thanks for this place to come and remember.. Karen from flint MI

Enjoyed looking at this website. I moved from Houghton in 1993 to the Flushing area (near Flint) Michigan. We make approximately 5 trips a year to Houghton to visit my family. My husband and son both love Houghton. Our dreams would be to move back to the area...but GM keeps us in the Flint area. Greetings to all Yoopers. My brother-in-law calls me a Troll now...we all know you can take the girl out of the U.P. but you can never take the U.P. out of the girl. I'll be a Yooper forever. Can't wait till July for our weeks stay at Bete Gris. Love to the Pidgeon family in Houghton!!

Was talking to some locals down here in the lower part. They said there is a road in the Copper Country where you go downhill, put the car in neutral, and some force pulls you back up the hill. We are born and raised in the Copper Country folks although we had to pursue the dollar to the lower and we had never heard of such a place up there although we did visit one in New Brunswick. Any help?

Just a note to let you know how much I enjoy the website. It makes me homesick whenever I check the pasty cam shots, although I'm still unthawing after the winter that drove me away - 1978/79. I make it home every couple of years and there is nothing like my first glimpse of Lake Superior!

Are there any hams in Keweenaw that would like to contact a former Mohawk resident? If so, I am on 20M on Tues and Thurs at 12noon-1PM EST on the U.S. Navy Radioman's Association Net (USNRMA)on 14.283Mhz. I would be glad to move off frequency with any Keweenaw or Calumet/Laurium ham who would check in to the net. Net Control is W7ILB Pete (Lady Lake, FL) or W8EHO Jerry (Muskegon, MI). My callsign is N4SXJ (Jackson, TN).
I believe we will be coming up to the U.P in July for a visit!
May the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always and by all means!

Greetings from God's Country, This is to all you former U.P. residents who moved away because of the winter weather. Thought you might like to know, The trees are budding, tulips are blooming, and the smelt have finished their run, the weather is getting warmer. These of course are all indications that Summer is on it's way, I wish you could all be here to enjoy the plasures of God's Country. Gus L.L. MI
