We were e-mailed your web sight so decided to check it out. We own Joe's Pasty Shop in Butte, MT. The letter from 'ome came to Butte with the Cornish miners. The "Richest Hill on Earth" drew quite a few miners from all over the world including the Up in Michigan.

Just a few days ago I rediscovered Dan Urbanski's beautiful Aurora Borealis photo in the Pasty Cam archives for Sunday July 16, 2000.

What an eerie coincidence, as there was a fairly spectacular display of the Northern Lights visible in the Phoenix AZ metro area last night (Friday 3/30/2001)!

If that event was visible here, you all must have had a really spectacular display. If so, I hope someone snagged a picture of it for ye olde Pasty Cam!

By Renee in IL on Saturday, March 31, 2001 - 05:07 am:

Hello all! Renee in IL here. It has been awhile since I posted but seeing as last night one of my favorite events took place I just had to write and mention it. There was a major aurora (Northern Lights) storm and we even got to see it all the way down here in Chicago, IL. That is a rare treat as they usually don't occur this far South. Just wondering how many of you way up North there got to see it (and a better view I am sure then what we had here). And if anyone caught it on film?
Best wishes,
Renee

"HANCOCK IRISH"
The name Hancock Irish started back in the early Mining days of Hancock and Quincy, It was claimed that the Lifestyle and Character of the Finns and Irish were so similar, it was hard to tell the difference till they started talking.
I am a former Hancock Irish, Born and raised in Hancock.

Hi Charlie Hopper-
Your niece from Lake Orion told me that I have
to say hello to you from her. I'm her reading
teacher at Paint Creek Elementary and we
chatted about the Keweenaw today. She is
just an absolute sweetheart! My folks live in
Mohawk; the Rantanen's. What a small world
we live in, hey?

Have a very wonderful day in God's country!

By Julia on Thursday, March 22, 2001 - 08:41 pm:

Hello there all you former "Keweenawites" who attended either the AHMEEK,
INTERVALE, OR GRATIOT RIVER SCHOOLS. Do you remember the first reunion
we had in 1991? We had such a good time visiting with old friends that we decided
it was time to get together again . The date has been set for Saturday, July 14,2001.
Ten years have passed and many folks have different addresses. We are making
every effort to locate as many former students as possible . If you or one of
your relatives or friends would like more information you may contact
SteveDanis, Reunion Chairman at 58524 Traprock Valley Rd. Calumet, Mich. 49913
or phone 906-337-4967
I know that Pasty Central is a favorite site of many web surfers...We would
appreciate you guys spreading the word . See you in July!

Told my daughter the other day that I was really craving a pasty and wish I had a recipe. She e-mailed me this web site and I'm so happy I could jump over the Mackinac Bridge. Looking forward to being in the U.P. for two glorious weeks this summer and bringing home pasty's in our motor home freezer.

Thanks for this site and I am going to try the Copper Country recipe first.

How lucky you are to live in such a beautiful area. See you in July.

My family and I would like to make one last trip "up home" together this summer before the college boys head in their own directions. We'd like to rent a camp on the east shore of Lake Superior. If anyone has a place available the week of July 8-14 that sleeps 6, please email me.

Hello Yoopers! I am looking for anyone who may be a relative of or have known of Louis Irene Pierce-Willea, She lived in the UP with her young (infant)son Bobby with relatives, but this was thirty-five years or more ago. Robert (now forty) is returning north with wife and kids and would like to know about his roots. Thank you.

By Art - Florida on Saturday, March 10, 2001 - 03:56 pm:

I am a Yooper of long standing, having survived, experienced and enjoyed 25 seasons (of pasty eating, deer hunting, ski jumping, sauna bathing, black Finn coffee, underground iron mining, ore boat sailing & cow milking) before leaving "Yooperland" for college and the lure of the big city. This was before the Big Mac Bridge was built and the Detroit Lions were not losers. Spent the next 25 years in federal law enforcement in places such as Cleveland and Miami, chasing a garden variety of counterfeiters and forgers. On retirement I started my natural migrating trek back north to the home sod of Yooperland and made it only as far as (Gator land) Gainesville, FL. I must congratulate "Pasty Central" on the efficient handling of my recent pasty order and bringing a little of "Yooperland" to this senior "Yooper". I am converting these southern gator folks into "ketchup and butter" eating pasty fans. Thanks for the order, I will reorder shortly!!!

By Minnfinn on Thursday, March 8, 2001 - 10:22 am:

Hyvaa paivaa to all the Suomalainens in the U.P.!

I just placed my pasty order, and can't wait to get them! Pasties are a mainstay in northern MN where I grew up, but hard to find in southern MN where I live now (and too time-consuming to make!). Congratulations on the ultimate pasty Web site!

Kiitos paljon!

To yupperjoe, who yesterday asked about Jake's buck (and also informed us about his invention): there was a Pasty Cam back in December'00 which told about "Buck Night" in Dollar Bay. You can read about it here, and this is the shot you wanted to see:

Congratulations Still Waters...Year #4 that's great. Have enjoyed the pictures. Looking forward to many more.

Actually, Still Waters first appeared on the web July 1, 1995, with the Snow Thermometer. Then PASTY.COM came "on the air" May 31, 1996. It is the Pasty Cam which is starting year 4... born March 1, 1998
