Again this year the county sheriffs in the Keweenaw are sponsoring a toy drive for children of qualifying low income families. In an article today in the Mining Gazette, Houghton County Sheriff Brian McLean appeared with his favorite fuzzy doll. Not to be outdone, Keweenaw County Sheriff Ron Lahti tries out some neat snowshoes.

Ron first appeared on the Pasty Cam in the fall of '98 with his son Ethan, and another one of his favorite toys.

Wasn't Ethan the little boy who had the water accident at Eagle River Falls a few years ago? As I recall, they almost lost him.

Was that incident before or after this picture was taken?

Lest anyone think this is all Sheriff Ron has to do, ask any Keweenaw County resident about this man's dedication to his job and to them -- he's a true Keweenaw gem.

In the late 50's or very early 60's the department delivered toys to my brothers and me. I'll never ever forget that. Many many thanks.

I SEE SHERIFF RON HAS A CHILD BUT.... IS HE MARRIED?! JUST WONDERING........ :-)

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Monday, December 17, 2001 - 08:46 pm:

Yes, Jenny Lahti is Ron's better half... we'll have to catch her with the Pasty Cam some morning when she's jogging to Phoenix.
