Lisa, We're not sure what you mean by "pressing update". Looking at Netscape and Internet Explorer, we can't find an update button. Maybe you're refering to the update of the "Bridge Cam" ?? We could make it so that it refreshes the view every time a new picture is uploaded. Let me know if that is what you had in mind: chopper@pasty.com

I grew up in the Copper Country with a Finnish grandma, but I don't remember any Finnish customs having to do with Christmas. I've been thinking more about my heritage lately and was wondering - does anybody out there know of any special customs that Finns have in celebrating Christmas, either with food or decorations or anything else? I'd appreciate any information.

AAAHH!!! Just got back from a trip to the Copper Counrty. Was there for the Thanksgiving holiday week and weekend. Good to see the snow that fell on Monday and Tuesday. Makes me homesick!!
I was hoping that the pasty-cam would have more pictures of the snow!!! It was looking like the middle of December.

Jussi,from checking the Finnish migration site, i found that all four Metteri's did emigrate to Calumet at the same time.Hugo,Lyylia,Martha,Pauli,and Toivo on 05-22-1904.It is an invaluable site for finding your Finnish ancestors.You can access passport or ships passenger records to find out what part of Finland your people came from.
If anyone wants the site i can post it or send it to them.Be warned...once you use it you will get hooked on doing your geneology!HISKI is also a useful link but somewhat difficult to use until you get used to it's links.

Does someone know something about Ed Metteri ? Who were his parents ? Did he came from Finland and when ? Did he have sisters, brothers, children ?

Ed had a sister who took care of all his business affairs. He was a resident at Still Waters for many years, as far as I know never married, worked in the mines. We have a little write-up on Ed in a previous Eye of the Pasty Cam

I bought a book about customs in Finland,and discovered that the Finnish also have long made pasties.They are called piirakka's.They are a Karelian pasty baked in a rye dough with either a rice or potato filling.Hope i get treated to one when we vist there next year.

There are obvious connections between Pasty of New Zealand, Neil the baker in Cornwall and the group from the office in Cornwall or southeast England and the word pasty leading to finding Pasty Cam on the net.
