Rivers such as this, are all over the U.P. Was it only a month ago I was traversing the rivers and tramping through the woods after the elusive venision? That could be why I came up empty handed - - spent more time taking in the views like this, than actually searching for prey. It's the sort of scene that soothes all your senses. Wouldn't it be nice if you could scratch your screen and sniff the fresh scent? I'll have to talk to Charlie about getting that done in 2004 - - a Pasty Cam scratch and sniff!

Good morning! And what a BEAUTIFUL picture this morning. I'm all for the scratch and sniff pasty cam! Hey! Especially when the pasties are baking! Then we could have a UP fresh air chaser! For dessert.

Great picture. Is that the Tobacco River, Toivo?

By troll with connections, Mi. on Saturday, December 20, 2003 - 08:58 am:

Hi Jim,
I remember the Teepee restaurant. I think the building, without the high roof, is now a contractor or architech business. It was one of the few drive-ins
that I remember, around the Copper Country in the 50's & 60's, before McDonalds and Burger King.I also remember the A&W in Baraga. They were great places for kids to get together. And how about the Hiawatha Drive-in just outside of Chassell. The sign and ticket booth are still there, but not much else. Wasn't there a drive-in in South Range?

I was a projectionist at the Hiawatha Drive-in in 1952. As an 18 yr. old at the time, what a wonderful part of my life that was... Was up to Calumet in Sept. On my way back home I stopped at the site, spent some time, and took some pictures.Memories and pictures will have to do.......

A roommate of mine from Pennsylvania once said, "What you call rivers, we call creeks."

I told her, "What you call lakes, we call puddles."

By top hand on Saturday, December 20, 2003 - 10:59 am:

Ah indeed, said creek is no doubt teeming with plump trout, ready to present anglers with ample fare come spring.

Wish this were my backyard. But I do have mountains.

Curious.

By Downstate Dave on Saturday, December 20, 2003 - 12:31 pm:

To Grandmothers house we go? Grandma's in Florida! Is this the Tobacco River? Stepped in over the top of my waders many times in that COLD water! Hey Sue, in Calumet, I always tell people "you ain't up north till you cross the bridge. They say "The Mackinaw Bridge"? and I reply "Nope, the Houghton/Hancock Bridge"!
GREAT Picture!

By Carrie, Troll-Land , MI on Saturday, December 20, 2003 - 08:09 pm:

Hey, Hey! What'll ya bet "Gerry MI" doesn't REALLY understand where the UP is...asking a question about Cadillac MI - which is NEARLY deep in Troll-Land.

And, Toivo! 'Venison'? Did you mean, DEER MEAT?
Or is that Dear Meet? Anywho, I thought only Troll-ers called deer meat, 'venison'.

The picture reminds me of the creek that runs through our camp, which is West of Donken. Sure would be great to be there now.

John
