John Dee from Snow Central was kind enough to lend us a great shot of a Snow Bunting that he took on one of Nora, the hounds and his many adventures in the Keweenaw. Now, I know the definition of a "snow bird" around here is someone who goes south for the winter. But somehow I think that description more aptly applies to these birds, since they spend their summers in the arctic and their winters in the Midwest. These little guys must really love the snow... so shouldn't they be called snow birds? One of those things that make you go hmm....

This little bird was in Johns' Nov. 5th journal. It is so cute that I had it for my wallpaper until recently. Definitely is not the "snow bird" that most of us a familiar with.

This bunting has an interesting coloration. You would think that living in snowy areas all year it would be white. But look how it blends into the dried vegetation behind it. If it was in that clump of stuff to the right you wouldn't be able to see it! Amazing!

The bird book shows this bird with a pure white head and black feathers in its other dress. I really appreciate knowing its name because I couldn't find it in my book before.
