This morning in the Keith Pashina Collection at CopperRange.org I ran across this shot which was taken on this day in 1961. The notes indicate it was taken by Charles Sincock, and suggests these possible explanations:

Copper Range Inspection car

A: Camouflaged so as not to be detected by on coming trains.
B: They really think these are deer.
C: Collecting Christmas trees early, as this picture was taken on the 9th of November in 1961.
Made from a '46 Ford, operators (jokesters) unknown
Looks like Toivo is back in from the woods, as the Wallpaper of the Week has been brought up to date. Some great stuff.

You can also find an another photo of this Inspection Car in the Winter 2003 issue of Classic Trains. Robert Anderson has a very nice article on the last days of the Copper Range, with a nice set of Copper Range photos as well. A must for any Copper Range fan.

I thought it looked like a 46 Ford. The 1st car I ever owned was a 46 Ford club coupe. It was a trade in at Murphy Auto Sales, where I worked summers in the Parts dept. You'll note it is in Henry Ford's favorite color. "You can get a model T in any color you want, as long as its black". I like the duck blind explanation for lazy hunters. Just don't get too close to the water. A good retriever would be mandatory for these lazy hunters. LOL.

The company security force is undercover and looking for miners who have dumped some shifts to get out to deer camp early.

I need help. The Iron Mountain Daily News site is down. Could someone please tell me how Forest Park did this past weekend against Baraga?

There is one other option for this photo. It was quite possibly a mobile deer stand. One could easly get to those unique off-road locations with this vehicle.

Can not stop wondering if that car is still in some Keweenaw barn..somewhere..
