You'll find several lovely autumn shots by Megan Elmblad in her Dad's guest album, along with some shots of last Saturday's Pasty Cam subject, the Huron Island Lighthouse.

This really appears to be the peak of color before we lose the leaves here in the U.P. I was hoping Toivo could give us a report of the drive from Green Bay to the Copper Country yesterday. Looks like another warm day in store, so he's probably out 'making wood'.

Today's picture has inspired me to go for a walk! Not as much color here down state yet, but none the less, it's still looks like a beautiful day to get out in da woods.

WOW...Beautiful Picture!!! The fall color back home in the good old UP must be ablaze by looks of things. I remember going bird hunting on the old logging roads in the fall. The color and serenity in the backwoods was certainly a spiritual experience. Thanks for sharing Megan!

This has been a week full of WOW's! Thanks to all the photographers and thanks to Charlie and Pasty.com for sharing these great views with us.

Megan and I had a wonderful afternoon riding on the old logging roads between L'Anse and Skanee checking out the scenery (October 9, 2003). The fall colors were outstanding and still are. When we got back to L'Anse, the temperature at the bank was 90 degrees! It sure has been one heckofva week eh! And to think that last week it snowed. Only in God's Country eh!

Yep, I sure do remember the color and the partridge hunts along the old roads. I was from the Beacon Hill/Freda/Redridge area and we had a lot of color in the Fall. Thanks for the nice Photo.

Just got back from a color tour of my old haunts; Kenton, East Branch of the Ontonagon valley, Jumbo Falls, and the back roads to Watersmeet. Color is peaked and beautiful. Wind came up and leaves were dropping like a snow storm. This beautiful color won't last long.

By RD, Iowa on Saturday, October 11, 2003 - 05:39 pm:

There is a very nice color tour back in the Pasty Cam Archives which shows the colors about a week earlier that year (2000).

The wife and I are headed to the U.P. in a few days, probably just in time for the weather to turn sour, ah well that's the chance you take on vacation. We're not going to have time to make it much past the Straits and so the request for help/information. On the East end of the peninsula where can we find some of the delicacies that I hear you folks refer to so often (yes I am a constant visitor to the site)? Specifically I'm looking for Thimbleberry jam and Trenary Toast. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

clyde and megan,
i tried to post a message earlier but it looks like it didn't get through. i wanted to correct
myself and attribute photos to megan as i should
have noticed at first.

To Ken B.
I don't know about the thimbleberry jam, but Trenery Toast can be purchased in Cedarville, (on the way to Drummond Island) at the Cedar Pantry. I don't know if other stores carry it. On the other hand you could just put some cinnamon and butter on a slice of bread and leave it in a toaster-oven too long. Just have plenty of cabin coffee ready to dunk it in. If you find it not to your taste, you can always use it in place of clay pigeons at a gun club. Clay pigeons, on the other hand, are not very palatable, even with cabin coffee.

By JAD at Oskar, MI on Saturday, October 11, 2003 - 09:42 pm:

To Ken B. You can order thimbleberry jam from
Copper World in Calumet. 101 Fifth St., 49913
Phone (906)337-4016. I periodically have them pack and ship some out to California.

By Ken from da UP on Saturday, October 11, 2003 - 10:14 pm:

Is that a beautimous picture or what? Kiitos, kiitos! Trenary toast is available at almost any grocery store. The thimbleberry jam is getting to be found lots of places, too. But sorta pricey. Gift shops and pasty shops. Good luck!

Got back today from a week in the South Range area
Great weather, awesome colors. Pasties, chow-chow,.thimbleberry jam,(thanks Skip) saffron bread,(thanks Mom). Every visit makes it harder
to return. Too bad about Thurners bakery closing.

By DJW on Sunday, October 12, 2003 - 02:48 pm:

Yes, very sad about the Thurners Bakery closing. Sad for employees, customers, Calumet and the entire Keweenaw economy.

As a transplanted yahkee who loves living in
the south there are still times I wish I was up north. Fall colors are one of those times.
This is still my favorite time of year, but for
different reasons now. Here it means there
are times you can turn off the A C. But we sure
don't have the bearty of the fall colors.
