Hi Toivo-

Hope all is well in the big state! Ya know, when trolls like myself get "away from it all" we head to the UP to spend our money and eat a pasty or several dozen... I'm thinking that when a Yooper goes to get "away from it all" that Alaska is the next logical step.

I recently scanned a slide that I took back in '96 showing fall colors. It's a shoebox memory of what we can expect to see really soon. The picture was taken near Marquette at the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad's Eagle Mills Yard. The structure in the photo was an old scale house that was torn down several years ago. Maybe you can use it, maybe not, but I thought I'd share it with you (and the folks at Pasty Central). Keep up the great work! Enjoy your trip and drive safely!

We have fall colors here in Colorado, too! Soon we will be able to view both of them! (Yellow and Brown). People drive for miles just to check them out each year during the "color season"!

I love the picture. I miss the color season. We don't see much of it here at the Grand Canyon. Most of our trees are evergreens and they don't change of course. We have some scrub oaks that change but not many. THANKS for the great picture. I use to live in the Copper Country until we moved here a little over two years ago.

Now Carolyn, with the views you have, no one is going to feel sorry for you. :-)

Guess it must be that time of year all over the place. Here In the central valley of Ca. You can feel fall in the evening air. But it's not the same as back "Home" in Mich.

I agree Kevin ... even tho here in Holland we
have colors and a "fall" season its not the same
as being "home" in Michigan... I just got back
from 5 weeks in Michigan and Ill....but its not
fall there yet...so I didnt see trees like that..
Enjoy "fall" everyone...... Julie B

Back to the photo - was this called a "gandy-dancers shack"?

We've got a local one that had a second floor added and became a custom-made folk art jewelry and accessories shop when first 'redone'! - and along came @20 other shops, cafes, and touristy things besides - even a pipe organ retail sales shop!

Who knew what a humble shack like that would bring! Actual inspiration was our "OLD MILL" restaurant....but - that gandy-dancers shack helped, too.
