Toivo, rolling into the next Province on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 12:04 am:

No doubt we have a few Pasty Cam visitors who rolled by this spot in the past month. U.S. 2 and 141 are major arteries funnelling U.P. explorers to their destinations in God's country. If memory serves, this is on the way from Iron Mountain, through Florence, Wisconsin, back into Michigan on the way to Crystal Falls.

Looks like the driving conditions are same as here in Saskatchewan, though the names are a little different: Regina, Moose Jaw, Saskatoon. Beautiful country.

My mouse is on the blink, or I would try to update the travel map. Maybe I can buy a new one in Edmonton, which hopefully I'll make by tomorrow night.

Donn DeYampert has added some great sunrise shots of my hometown to the Crystal Falls photo gallery.

Where city life ends and REAL living begins! If I close my eyes now, will we be in Houghton in a couple hours?

By Missin the UP from NJ on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 01:58 pm:

I remember many trips past this spot. Over the last 30+ years we've crossed into "God's Country" several different ways. Wow, do I miss my "home".
Enjoyed the pictures of Crystal Falls. Especially the Iron County Courthouse. I grew up west of Iron River, and I seem to remember my teachers telling us kids some story about how the county courthouse ended up in Crystal and IR lost out. Something about a card game, I think. Oh, how I love those stories of our very human past!! Crystal sure did right by designing such a regal building.

Oh! And Donn DeYampert- Your photography ROCKS!

By Jim Copper Country on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 02:52 pm:

....remember when the Michigan welcome signs had
"Say YES! to Michigan" on 'em....

By Dan, California on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 04:07 pm:

I passed by this sign just a few short weeks ago. I flew into Minneapolis, and drove to Toivola from there. I had a great time in the U.P. Kept the sauna warmed for 4 days straight, had pasty, and Vollwerths summer sausage. All the good things that I could fit in for one short week. Also rode my brothers Polaris quad. Lots of cool bush roads to ride on in Toivola. The weather could not have been more perfect! It's going to be 102 degrees here today. I wish I was at Agate Beach instead. Have a great day out there in pasty land. And thanks for the continuing great photos.

what's with the clocks...my clock says 1:20 P.M. and the last four posts have been 1:58pm, 2:00 P.M., 2:52 and 4:07 P.M. all say Tuesday July 29th. hhmm interesting!

By ILMHitCC on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 05:49 pm:

Still have my "Say ya to da UP, eh" bumper sticker.

By Rick Karl, Wisconsin on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 06:19 pm:

Say, does anyone know if there is any way to get a "Superior-51st" bumper sticker anymore...

This was a hot item during the secessionist days back in the early 1980s....back when the UP wanted to become a separate state....

By Connie - Colorado on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 06:30 pm:

Joanne,
The times are in Eastern Daylight Time. This is the time zone of the center of the universe... Pasty Central!

By Connie - Colorado on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 06:32 pm:

Joanne is right. The times are all wrong. Someone needs to fix the clock at Pasty Central! That post I just made at 12:30pm Mountain Daylight Time says it's 6:20pm right now. Maybe we are switching to UT (Universal Time).

By Mike R. New Berlin, WI on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 07:54 pm:

I have my "Say ya to da U.P., eh" hanging right above my Finn Power bumper sticked in my office in beautiful down town New Berlin.
Didn't the Welcome to Michigan signs once say "Winter, Water, Wonderland"? I've been crossing into Michigan at Iron Mountain for 38 years. My wife use to claim that my personality changed when we crossed the Menominee River, 1 hour from Negaunee.

By PW, Escanaba on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 08:17 pm:

In case your interested,it looks like the sign coming North from Niagara heading towards Quinnesec. I have the pleasure of traveling all the main routes through the UP in my work.

By Mary Drew on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 08:33 pm:

The times are wrong on JohnDee.Com also...
My post is going on here at 4:32 Eastern.....

By Martha K., Pinckney, MI on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 08:47 pm:

Maybe it's Toivo's fault. Traveling across the prairies of Saskatchewan and Alberta could make you lose all track of time, eh?

By Mike, MI !! was..... mike, tx on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 10:23 pm:

Michigan is great...and the UP is the crown of the LP. The seasons are wonderous!! Its great to be back !!!

By Kerry, Mi on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 10:39 pm:

Hey I am just curious to know, how the fishing is coming along up there, Cause I'm going to be up there for 1 week from Aug 1st to the 8th. And I don't have a boat just going to fish from the docks in Houghton and the Portage Entry. Can someone let me know by Fri. Thanks
Also I bought Salmon eggs so I know that might help me catch something.

By Donn de Yampert on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 10:59 pm:

Go to http://pasty.com/pcam/album25 and look at the photograph entitled "My Catch at the Chassell Docks". Gina Roose caught these two off the dock.
Regards,
Donn

Mike in New Berlin,
Is that Mike and Carol from the old movie house in Negaunee?

By Karen on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 09:02 pm:

Just came through there on Sunday on my way back from Green Bay...Ran into some local people in Green Bay as well. Once you see those "Welcome to Michigan" signs, its a great relief to know we were "home".

By Charlie at Pasty Central on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 10:25 pm:

To all who inquired about the time (notice there is even a Wednesday message above this Tuesday note), no, it wasn't the return of Hans the Hacker. We had a huge server upgrade, mainly because of the need for more space in the Guest Gallery. A couple of glitches had to be worked out, including the time zone issues.

The good news: we have tons of disk space for publishing your favorite pictures of the U.P. which automatically can run as slide shows. Here's a great one from Cindy Freeman I just watched tonight.

For more information about an album of your own, see the photo submission policy

By Connie - Colorado on Tuesday, July 29, 2003 - 10:56 pm:

Hey Charlie! Thanks for adding all the disk space! I've noticed that your upload options for the galleries now include .mpg files, so of coarse, I had to try it. You can enjoy a virtual stream right there where you are sitting if you click http://pasty.com/pcam/cmpizzitola here. Find the movie photo (this is easy!). Take yourself deep into the heart of Colorado. Relax and enjoy it!

HK Corn County, You got it. We were home for Pioneer days. Got to drive in the parade in one of Adamini's cars. Lots of fun. Took a tour of the Vista too. Lots of memories. Hadn't been in there since I sold it 30 years ago. Did you ever work there?

By Stuck in WI on Wednesday, July 30, 2003 - 04:21 pm:

Kerry..........you're too early to catch any salmon from shore............Try some of the rivers or perault lake for trout. Otter lake can also be good. Not much from shore in Houghton this time of year tho.........

By Bob-B Madtown. Wi. on Thursday, July 31, 2003 - 04:09 pm:
